What the friggin hell is calvin harris doing at shindig?

honestly, what has he got to do with house music? or disco music for that matter? theres a 4/4 beat in similarity, but thats where it ends like....

wax on, yes. shindig?!? ...seems like its going on a downward slope now.

the one thing thats begining to spoil shindig, and my nights there is the kitchy, ironic, moody-userpic-posing-lookingoffinthedistancelikeanex-emo student twats that aren't there for the music at all. and now the organisers are playing to them?!

i think we can almost officially strip digital's claim as the fabric of the north now.

saying that, mylo played a half-decent set there a few years ago.

but still, at least he had a housey attitude towards some of his stuff.

calvin harris..... they should've got CHLOE harris.

...maybe they accidently booked the wrong one...

...erm. sorry. im just stressed after work. haha. (but IDST)

[edit: i have nothing against students, but i do have something against people who spoil my night out by keeping the transit lines moving across the dancefloor all night, while none of them are paying any attention to what the music is,...]

I've been going to shindig for over 13 years (on and off) and can honestly say its stronger than ever in regards to the DJ's they are booking.

Lets not forget shindig is weekly, and therefore has to vary the DJ's they book else get accused of booking the same DJ's all the time.

It is also a business which has to make money to survive. Think of the many "classic" nights / clubs that have closed down The Cross, Turnmills, The End (closes this Dec) and the superclubs like gatecrasher, cream etc which closed down years ago.

Also Shindig is much more a house night than Fabric, as fabric play a wide variety of styles like breaks, minimal, techno, nu rave and electro.

Keep up the good work lads :)

i think Barkov has a point to make folks... + i take my hat off to him 4 daring to express himself the way he has.

ok, so it appears that he's maybe not studied future listings + therefore isn't giving shindig proper credit, but some of what he's saying is deffo worth hearing imo.

i take scooby's point from another thread that something needs to be done for 'the masses' for shindig to survive as a weekly nite, but we wouldn't be shindiggers if we didn't challenge stuff imo :)

Absolute rubbish. If you think about it properly then Shindig are essentially a business and having known names on once a month gives the regulars a break and gets the students in with their cash... In turn, paying for top DJ's every other week. Have you seen the line-ups since August/September?? There was a point where we were there week after week which done our bank balances no good at all... So by having alternative DJ's on then it saves us cash and makes sure the coin is still rolling in for the lads at Shindig.

I have to take issue at the fact you say the above about Shindig and....

.... just because they put some well known people on...

I suggest you take a look at December's line up and then pour some ice cold milk over your words and eat them.

... My goodness, as appose to looking like a bass-munter? There's a spacebar on your keyboard as well, at the bottom, it's the longest one.

reckon shindig's doing an amazing job of keeping afloat of all sorts atm tbh..

shame digital wasn't the space it could be but that's another issue.. :/

it seems to me tho that this particular nite @ digital has it within itself to survive & just keep building on its well established reputation :)

I think Digital is a brilliant club and don't forget the panic back in the summer when everyone realised just how much we all rely on the place to give us nights such as Shindig when its demise looked imminent... but I agree Chippy, changes here and there would make it even better... but that's for a different thread haha :) x

lololol i think barkov has been put in his place now....Digital is brilliant like, its doesnt come 13th in the top 100 clubs for nothing and shindig helps it a lot. I think it would just need a few more tweaks and it could be even better...i keep saying this but get the lasers on...ive seen them on once for cattaneo and nothing else!! why? Get more smoke out the machines and more strobes..it all adds to the atmosphere i tell ya ha...it was like that for cattaneo and the place was absolutley amazing, just excellent :)

I think thats pretty much the only reason that it's at 13 to be honest. I don't remember seeing Powerhouse - Newcastle in the top 1000 clubs in the world, let alone 20 before it was Digital. I go to Digital because nights like Shindig and Wax:On are there not the other way around. I will agree with Barkov on the "look at me" brigade that are in there, but I think thats cos i'm old now, and long past being a "bothered by fashion or looks" person, ha ha. They all probably think i'm some geriatric from a previous generation, that should be at home with a cup of cocoa! Probably right too, lol
